Members Short Talks

Thursday 14 December 2023
19:30 to 21:00

Members' Night
will include short talks by three members, together with the prize-giving for the photographic and art and
craft competitions. The programme of talks this year has been largely determined by events. Our President,
Barbara Last (95), has asked to give a final talk to the Society on a 'Search for Polar Bears' based on an
excursion around Spitzbergen in 2008. With a full programme of speakers already confirmed until 2025, the

committee agreed to allocate a place at Members' Night to Barbara. The second talk will be by Vice-
President John Notman on some of the typical and special flowers of the New Forest. Originally being

prepared to complete the recent New Forest trilogy (Insects by Dr Paul Brock and Birds, Mammals and
Scenery by Richard Ramsay), 2025 again looked too far away and the Committee agreed to including an
abridged version on Members' Night. Surprisingly, this subject has not been covered in previous talks over
our 70 years. The third talk will be 'Into the Woods with Keith' by Vice-Chairman Keith Lea. This talk was
in last year's Members' Night programme but had to be cancelled due to illness. Tea, coffee and biscuits will
be available from 7 pm.
